چکیده

Si and N-doped DLC coatings with various Si and N contents were prepared using a magnetron sputter ionplating technology. The antifouling property of DLC coatings was evaluated with Pseudomonas fluorescens which is one of the most common bacteria forming biofilms on the surface of heat exchangers in cooling water systems. The experimental results showed that bacterial removal by a standardised washing procedure increased significantly with increasing electron donor values and with decreasing electron acceptor values of DLC coatings. The incorporation of 2%N into the Si-doped DLC coatings further significantly reduced bacterial attachment and significantly increased bacterial removal. The best Si-Ndoped DLC coatings reduced bacterial attachment by 58% and increased removal by 41%, compared with a standard silicone coating, SilasticT2. Bacterial adhesion strength on the DLC coatings is explained in terms of thermodynamic work of adhesion. − S γ

Evaluation of tribological properties of (Ti,Al)CN/DLC composite coatings deposited by cathodic arc method.

In this study, Ti, Al and N doped DLC – referred to here after as “(Ti,Al)CN/DLC composite”- coating and pure diamond-like coating (DLC) were produced by cathodic arc deposition technique and the effects of the coating thickness on their tribological properties were evaluated. The coatings were characterized, using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), X-ray diffrac...

Load-Bearing Biomedical Applications of Diamond-Like Carbon Coatings - Current Status

The current status of diamond-like carbon (DLC) coatings for biomedical applications is reviewed with emphasis on load-bearing coatings. Although diamond-like carbon coating materials have been studied for decades, no indisputably successful commercial biomedical applications for high load situations exist today. High internal stress, leading to insufficient adhesion of thick coatings, is the e...

Studies on Diamond-like Carbon and Novel Diamond-like Carbon Polymer Hybrid Coatings Deposited with Filtered Pulsed Arc Discharge Method

The main obstacle for the application of high quality diamond-like carbon (DLC) coatings has been the lack of adhesion to the substrate as the coating thickness is increased. The aim of this study was to improve the filtered pulsed arc discharge (FPAD) method. With this method it is possible to achieve high DLC coating thicknesses necessary for practical applications. The energy of the carbon i...
